A Boy On The Road - The Adventure Starts
My round-the-world trip starts in proper style: with a very long journey. From door to door - from Germany to Uruguay - from Winter to Summer - it took about 28 hours, 11.500 km and exactly one turn of the year. From Dortmund I began my trip by bus to Utrecht at around 11am on the 31st of December 2014. In Utrecht I changed to a train which brought me to Amsterdam Schiphol. From there it was only a 2 1/2 hour flight to Madrid Barajas, and from there, exactly four minutes before midnight (and before the start of the year 2015), the plane departed (with only about 25% of the seats occupied) to Montevideo. Air Europa flight UX45 landed at around 9am local time there. It took only two helpful Swiss and another German to cram up a taxi (because there are absolutely no busses on the 1st of January 2015 in Montevideo) and get to the inner city, the bus terminal Tres Cruces. From there it was only a 1/2 hour walk to my host family in Pocitos. So, "Tschüß Deutschland!" and "¡Hola Uruguay!", good bye temperatures at around 0°C and hello temperatures at around 25°C! Some impressions from the road...
