Beers Of Ecuador
The South America beer test continues. So far there were no big surprises, sadly, the only exceptions being some fine craft beers, read up on that here: Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru. And if you want take a closer look with me at the beers of Ecuador keep reading.
Cerveza Popular
- The Cervecería Nacional CN S.A. is a subsidiary of SABMiller plc and has breweries in Guayaquil and in Quito. They place the following beers on the market: Pilsener, Pilsener Light, Club Premium, Club Roja (limited edition) and Club Negra (also limited edition). I bought a Pilsener and a Club Premium to join the evaluation.
- The Compañía Cervecera Ambev Ecuador S.A is a subsidiary of ABInBev and is located in Guayaquil. Besides the well-known global players Budweiser and Brahma they have one local beer available: Biela.
Cerveza Artesanal
- The Camino del Sol Brewing Company from Quito serves four different craft beers with funny names: Turtle Pale Ale, Red Llama Ale, Black Bird Stout and Iguana IPA. Sadly I was only able to snatch the first one of those neatly packaged goods.
- Sabai is a brewery from Cumbayá and its portfolio contains the following beers: Chaquiñan IPA, Golden Ale, Roja Doble, Black IPA, Cidra and Pinnacle Amber Ale (apparently only sold on the Galápagos Islands). I tested the Black IPA and the Pinnacle Amber Ale.
Here is an overview of the tested beers:
01 Pilsener
02 Club Premium
03 Biela
04 Camino del Sol Turtle Pale Ale
05 Sabai Black IPA
06 Sabai Pinnacle Amber Ale
And the winner (i.e. my favorite) is...
In the category Cerveza Artesanal the trophy goes to Camino del Sol Turtle Pale Ale, funny name but solid taste. Club Premium wins in the category Cerveza Popular, simply because it is better than its contestants and not because it tastes good!
