Colonia del Sacramento
The next stop on my trip was Colonia del Sacramento. Very different to Montevideo, because it is dominated by tourism, and with about 27.000 inhabitants quite small. The city was once an important strategic point, it was either controlled by Spain or Portugal and for a short time also the United Kingdom. Thus the cityscape is dominated by different architectural styles and there are a lot of museums about the rich history. I stayed there over the weekend and was able to witness a Candombe dance parade and a big thunderstorm. My search for the best Chivito ended here and I wished I would have stayed in the hotel where I ate it. Lets put it that way: my hostel was not the cleanest, but on the bright side, now I have four new spider friends!
